Near the town I live in, there is this big Coal/Biomass Powerplant.
It started producing power (580MW) in 1982 and closed down in 2015.
I visited this huge site in 2017, just before they started demolishing the buildings.
This is still not done, but visiting the site now is very hard or...
History:
The history of this classic power station dates back to the beginning of the 1900s. At this time coal was extracted from a nearby mine. This mine quickly grew out to be quite a successful one so it was decided to expand their operations. This expansion also included a small coal powered...
History:
This power plant dates back to the begin of the 1950s, the reason for this was due to a big modernization the paper mill was in at this time. So a stunning minty miniature power house was made. The power station worked on coal, and was meant to be used as a backup for when the nearby...
History:
This power plant was constructed at the begin of the 1900s. The power plant was a hydro electric plant so this means that water with a strong current was necessary for the production of electricity. The purpose was to power a huge facility built around the power plant which made calcium...
History:
The history of this powerplant started at the begin of the 1930s, when the steel company needed a new more modern way to produce electricity. When building the design had all the modern design features like gas turbines which worked on gas which came as a by-product from the blast...
History
The history of this power plant started in 1977 and ran on diesel powered turbines. After 10 years this plant was already not that profitable anymore so it became a back up power station for when there was a shortage of electricity in the region. This went on for a couple years until...
A couple of months ago i visited a real classic in the urbex scene in Europe. Powerplant IM.
This Powerplant was build in 1921 in a modernistic industrial style which was very futuristic for the time. The facility in its whole was also one of the most modern powerplants in the whole country...
This former power station is located on a huge, still in operation, steel mill.
Some halls have not been entered for years.
What you find here is definitely industrial history and comes from the beginning of industrialization.
The steel mill was founded in 1873.
Hello,
This was my 16th visit to Belgium for Exploring! Was a great little explore, only history I could find is below. It is a mix between DLSR and phone photos.
This power plant was built in 1960 and operated on gas . In 2014, the plant was closed. 40 jobs were lost.
It turns out that...
Peppermint Powerplant
The Peppermint Powerplant was built in conjunction to a nearby paper mill with the purpose of supplying electricity to it. The plant features a stunning peppermint colour scheme on the singular turbine and control panels. The turbine itself was produced by Siemens, a...
One of the more fun powerplant explores i ever did. This location was pretty active and there was still a lot of electronics and lights turned on.
I've been here twice, and still didn't have the chance to see the whole location. The highlights of these place (for me) are the modern controlroom...

This hydro powerplant is part of a larger factory. The remainder of the factory is used for storage purposes today. Amongst other stuff you can find a Pinoccio-film set.
I ignored Pinoccio and focussed on the power plant instead.

Set in a picturesque valley in southern Germany lies this abandoned paper mill with it's own power plant. It contains two turbine halls, two boiler houses and much much more. It's about as good as an industrial site can get, it's got everything. Visited with @extreme_ironing, @Andy...
One of many good explores on a weekend jolly to belgium with raw and a curious george and a non member, lots of cool stuff over there to be fair, we whizzed around here and it still took us about 5 hours, you could easily spend a good 12h day if not more in this place. Gotta love big buckets of...

This was the largest thermal Powerstation in Belguim. Developed and upgraded over the years with more modern turbines.
A huge site full of symmetry inside and out. This really is a cool location.
