The power station provided electricity for half a century. A reminder of Hungary's polluting industry from the 1950s to the 1980s.
The construction of the Inota thermal power plant began in March 1950 with the installation of various technical devices by Czechoslovak partner companies. The plant began its trial operation on November 7, 1951, from which it derives its official name Thermal Power Plant November 7th. The plant started feeding electricity into the Hungarian power grid on December 6 of the same year. The plant continued to grow and develop, with new boilers gradually being commissioned and the rated capacity when completed in the mid-1950s was 120 MW.
The operation of the plant was initially hampered by constant failures of the internal power plant equipment (which had to be repaired by the Czechoslovak side) and an insufficient amount of incoming coal from the neighboring mine at Várpalota, necessitating the importation of fuel by rail from mines further away .
The power plant became known through the film Blade Runner 2049, for which some scenes were shot here in 2017.
It was then shut down in 2001.
During our visit, the power plant was already being demolished and a security service was active on the site.
In some parts of the building there was a special atmosphere due to the sunshine.
On some pictures, you can see the coal conveyor belt that we used to get into the building.
