The history of the castle begins in the first half of the 13th century. Around 1233 Benedictine monks built here a fortified manor, which was sold in 1334 and expanded to the castle with four towers. At the end of the 15th century, the castle was divided and extended by several owners. From 1539, the castle became the country residence of noble families, around 1600, they built the chapel. The last renovation of the castle was in the 19th century. During the National Socialist occupation during World War II, the castle was the seat of the German army. Proverbs and paintings on the walls still bear witness to this sad and bad time. I have made the Nazi-swastika on the Reichskriegsflagge (war flag of the German Reich) unrecognizable, because its publication is rightfully prohibited in Germany.
After the war, the castle remained uninhabited, today it's for sale.
My first attempt to visit the castle two years ago failed. In front of the castle are still the ruins of an old farm estate. In front of these ruins is a construction site for residential buildings. The crane is still standing there, but the construction site has been abandoned already for several years now and the empty houses are slowly recaptured by nature.
