Basically I guess I do not need to tell anything about this place, because I think it is one of the most known abandoned castles ...
But nevertheless here still a few historical data:
In the 18th century, the owner of the neighboring castle were evicted from their property and found shelter in a nearby farmhouse. 75 years later, on its place was built the neo-gothic castle for the noble family. The approximately 34 m high clock tower was built in 1903.
During the Second World War the castle was occupied by German troops. Then, until the late 1970s, the national railway company rented the main building and used it as a holiday home for children of railway employees. In subsequent years, tourists could visit the castle. Around 1990 it was closed because the cost of maintenance increased immeasurably. Since the castle is abandoned, it finally decays.
In the following years the wooden floors, fireplaces, Italian marble, etc. were partly stolen and partly installed in a nearby cottage.
It burned inside the castle (in the red hall) in February 2011 (arson).
A dial of the clock tower was removed with violence and stolen in August 2011.
My first visit was in 2007. The following photos are from my fourth visit in January 2012.
(At that time, I had the rare opportunity to visit the castle with permission for two days legally and to take pictures without hassle). I have so many photos only from this visit that I split it in two postings.
I hope I have translated well enough in English (it was a bit difficult for me), so that everything is understandable.

29 - I found this heavy fragment of the railing on the stairs. After the photos I put it back, so that it does not fall down and break.
