DLO Caversfield was once the communal side of RAF Bicester - after it ceased functions as an RAF base the buildings were taken over by the Defence Logistics Organisation for development and testing of army clothing and other items worn by soldiers. I'd known it had recently been closed down but the builders had moved pretty much straight in so it seemed like it wasn't doable - but Christmas Eve 2011 came round and me and my mate thought there wasn't going to be a better opportunity to see what was what! After finishing in the airfield side of the site we moved across and this side turned out to be totally different - all clean, stripped locked up buildings, and a lot of CCTV everywhere
After finding a way round avoiding the cameras as best we could we stumbled across the first of only two open buildings, this one a real doozy being an old decontamination bunker! Sadly totally stripped of everything as it had been converted to DLO use after closure but the lights still worked which was a bonus...
Working our way round the site we saw many buildings, all locked tight and all totally stripped.
Until we found this one at the far end of the site which, with a little pulling on a jolly stiff door opened up to reveal a minty fresh laboratory!
The taped lines are presumably marks for where new walls were going to go in, and the taped crosses were walls to be removed
And with the light fading, we were gone. Most rooms were bare but the lab was brill. I'm not normally a fan of these super fresh closures as I like a little bit of decay but it was nice to see something brand new for once. As far as I'm aware the whole place has been converted now.
