Dundyvan Church
Dont you just hate a place that forces you to shoot mainly in portrait :rofl well seemed to be one such place.
The former Dundyvan Parish Church in Coatbridge, Scotland was a Gothic church built in 1905 It was designed by Alexander Cullen and stood above Luggie Burn. The church closed and the congregation joined Blairhill Church to form Blairhill Dundyvan Church.
Striking Gothic style Scots Revival church in red sandstone, enjoying a prominent position above Luggie Burn. The slim buttressed gable features etiolated lancet windows, whilst the tall pinnacled belfry tower is topped by a crown.
Thats about all I can find out about the history on this one.

November 1995: Monklands District Council carries out works to secure the church against unauthorised entry and vandalism. Doorways have been bricked up and windows covered with metal sheeting. Meanwhile, local planners are undertaking a title search to establish ownership.
July 1997: External inspection reveals the church to be in a deteriorating state.
22 April 1998: The Airdrie Advertiser reports that a local councillor has expressed concern that the deterioration of the church could pose a threat to the safety of children, who have taken to playing within its walls. It is reported that all stained glass has now been smashed and brickwork is beginning to come loose. Local planners have now been asked to examine options for the building.
22 July 1998: The Airdrie Advertiser reports that North Lanarkshire Council has commissioned a survey of the church's condition, in liaison with the building's owner. Local councillors report that an expression of interest has been received from an astrology society. SCT subsequently learns that the conclusion of the condition survey by Page and Park Architects is not optimistic.
March 2001: External inspection reveals further deterioration. The owner reiterates to SCT his desire to see both the church and its manse sold and refurbished.
February 2002: Interest is shown in converting the church to an alternative use. Local planners consider the plan inappropriate for a residential area.
March 2003: The church is now sold. The new owner expresses interest in redeveloping and converting the property.
May 2004: Permissions are sought for conversion into 21 flats. SCT and the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland object on the grounds that the proposals are over ambitious.
29 September 2004: The Airdrie Advertiser reports that permissions have been granted. The church will become 21 flats and the manse 7 flats, with a further 7 flats built adjacent.
June 2005: The local planners confirm that PP and LBC has been granted for the redevelopment of the church and the manse.
April 2006: New ownership details listed.
June 2007: Local planners report that the church has suffered from the latest of a number of fires. The roof has completely collapsed.
February 2008: External inspection finds the central part of the church is a ruinous shell. The roof has been lost to fire. The single storey entrance section to the east and tower to the west appear to be in better condition.
November 2008: Application for conversion and partial demolition of the church, with 2 new builds in the grounds into 33 residential flats is submitted to North Lanarkshire Council. SCT objects to the application due to the scale of the demolition of the northern elevation. C/08/01472/FUL.
June 2010: External inspection finds that the church remains derelict and largely roofless. There are substantial bushes and plants on the wallheads and in masonry joints. The tower and east entrance section apprear to continue to be in better condition. The applications for partial demolition and the creation of 33 flats were refused Nov 2009.
October 2010: Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser (22 September 2010) reports the condition of the building was raised at a recent meeting of the council‘s planning committee. Approval for the serving of an amenity notice was granted to local planners. Building standard officers will also be ensuring the perimeter security fencing is restored. Planners will monitor the site, and if necessary present a future request for the serving of a building repairs notice to the owners.
December 2011: A member of the public advises Listed Building Consent is being sought for full demolition of the church and manse to clear the site. ref: 11/01273/LBC
16 December 2014: External inspection finds little now remains of the roof structure, condition moved to Ruinous. Listed Building Consent for the demolition of the former church and its associated manse was withdrawn Nov 2013 ref: 11/01273/LBC.
12 November 2019: Listed Building Consent for partial demolition and redevelopment into flatted units is being sought (19/01397/LBC) with retention of the tower and narthex.
28 October 2020: A member of the public reports consents for substantial demolition noted previously, have been conditionally approved.
20 May 2024: Consents (23/00865/S42 & 23/00956/LBC) have been conditionally granted for substantial demolition of the church and manse, 01/12/2023, and construction of a flatted development. This is a renewal of 19/01/01396/FUL & 19/01397/LBC.
The explore... Honestly I have no idea! I cant even remember visiting this one, but with 35 unposted places from that 21 trip alone so its not surprising
