Haut Fourneau B is one of two abandoned blast furnaces in Liege owned by Arcelor Mittal, the world's number one steel company. Founded in 1809, it was one of the primary metal producers in Belgium, producing products such as bar, plate, beams and rails. German occupation during the First World War brought much damage to the plant, after the war rebuilding took place between 1919 and 1924. The plant was finally shut down in 2011 due to a lack of demand for steel.
Much fun was had getting around this beast with merryprankster, curiousgeorge and Jane. We were joined by a team of Spanish metal fairies who did their best to persuade us the power station was inaccessible when in actual fact they just wanted it all to themselves. We got inside anyway and all went about our own business without any fuss, that was my favourite part of the site. The place is gimungous. Pics:
The very top of the furnace, bits of railing came off in my hand up here

Thanks for looking
