Unfortunately I couldn’t find MUCH in the way of history for this little cottage other then it being occupied by an elderly couple until the lady’s passing of cancer in 2009. I read on another report (different site) that the man was “missing” but, according to another explorer, there are actually funeral plans in the cottage for him dated 2010 so....who knows lol. Either way the son still owns the property but clearly doesn’t give it a second thought as it’s waaaay beyond any sort of restoring and is almost completely hidden from view by the out-of-control ivy devouring the small abode!
The Explore:
we drove about 40mins or so from our house in Croydon through the lanes into the Surrey countryside. As we approached the property I noticed a white van outside and instantly thought “well....that’ll make entry more difficult” lol. After parking at the end of the road in the little housing estate we walked 5mins back on ourselves, couldn’t see the van owner so slipped silently into the front garden. It’s literally a jungle in there! It clearly, for whatever reason, isn’t being tended to in any way.
we made our way, through thick undergrowth, around the cottage until we saw a point of entry trying desperately to avoid the van owner and neighbour who were conversing in the side ally of the house next door. Once inside it’s VERY clear that the owner doesn’t visit....it’s trashed! Recently trashed too as I’ve seen pics from 2-3 weeks ago and it wasn’t THIS bad! Also the explorer had “hidden” certain items that were now no longer hidden. The living room and kitchen are a complete mess and the atmosphere is like something from a 90’s horror movie. Dark, damp and the air is slightly thick....but not thick enough to choke you.
making our way upstairs I was hit by the smell of mould and Poo.....human Poo. 1) no way an animal could get inside the property (that I can logically see) and 2)....you know what human Poo smells like lol.
Both bedroom have 5-6 large containers under the windows to catch water that had been seeping through the cracks in the ceiling, the windows that are damaged and the wall moving away from the roof. I didn’t venture too far into the rooms as the damp snd water damage is making the floors unsafe, the ceilings downstairs crumble and add the weight of the 12 water containers (completely full!) I just didn’t fancy falling to my death!
may the top of the stairs is a very interesting room. It’s only small and looks to have been used to store a VERY extensive collection of VHS tapes.....that’s when I found the source of the smell.....someONE had lovely taken a shit in the door way in a carrier bag lol.
after taking a few more pics of stuff I’d missed downstairs (tv, phone etc that was the opposite side to the stairs), we made our way back out into the small concrete shed. Not really much there other then another old tv, some old gardening equipment, a small paddleboat and a very witchy looking broom!
with the cottage now explored (there IS a garage and what looks like a small extension from the back that I couldn’t find access to) we made our way back to the car down the Lane we had came and toddled off home.
Thanks for reading and if anybody DOES now anymore, please feel free to correct/inform me! Thanks again guys.
Enjoy!
