The last stop of my lastest England Tour was this Lovely Asylum. The plan of action was to camp by a nearby city but got disturbed by a passing motor who seemed a bit too interested in my motor, so decided to head up to the Asylum anyhow. Arriving in the early hours of the morning I thought it would be best to make sure there was still access so grabbed my sleeping bag and camerabag and went for a solo sleepover in the Ivy Hospital.
After navigating a fairly steep bank which was muddy after the very wet weekend, I soon found myself at the Asylum, navigating the protective force field some refer to as a fence, I found the entrance point. Putting my bag in first I accidently dropped it on a large piece of glass, what a fooking noise it made!! Shit balls buggery crap, I was sure if secca had been on their rounds they would have heard it, so I waited for a bit. I heard some gates rattling and torch light waving around in the dark sky, Fuck, the secca was onto me.
I decided to try wait them out hiding in a dark corner, intensely waiting to be found. After about 30 minutes or so waiting I was getting a very dry throat, but couldn't risk getting my bag as it lay on a lot of glass, I had to make sure the secca were not in my immediate area. Sneeking a look round the corner I saw a flash of a High Vis jacket, fuck me, they are waiting about 30metres away, I snuck back and waited again, every now and again sneeking a peek but kept catching a glimpse of them hiding beside a tree. It was like a Mexican stand off, who would be first to fold and give up, well that would be me, so I sheepisly walked out from my hiding spot.
For fucks sake, my eyes had been playing tricks on me, there was no on there. I had waited outside in the bloody cold for nothing it seems, I was soon inside and off to find a sleeping spot. Navigating the asylum was fairly tricky trying to find a dry spot where I could remain hidden. Eventually I stumbled upon the more modern side of the Asylum and the former isolation cells. Ahh bed for the night (I took this pic in the morning, but do have a shitey mobile pic for the non believers)
After a few short hours but very relaxing sleep, I woke to daylight and it was derp time. I soon found out this place is a bit of a maze and getting your bearing isn't all that easy as the whole ground floor is boarded up.
Thanks for looking!
