The History.
Quite a history to this one ins as much as it had lots of different uses. Built in 1876 at a then significant cost of £ 70,000. it has been:
a Private home - until 1928, a retirement home for the clergy, a hospital and then a Hotel. A fire gutted the place in 1982 and it has sat there
slowly deteriorating since.
There was a very brief period where a squatter occupied it and tried, mainly with physical graft rather than finances, to restore it. It is said to be owned by a mysterious Canadian who seems to be nigh on impossible to contact.
It is in poor shape with parts of it really just a ruinous shell. It is situated up on a hill in very large grounds with wonderful views.
The Visit.
This is another one of those sites that has been vaguely at the back of my mind to be on my to do list and that I thought I'd never get to see, possibly just not getting round to it. Happily it came to the forefront of my mind and as I was undertaking a visit to Wales anyway I started to think about taking this place in on my way to my Main destination - a side deviation and detour for sure , but one I felt was worth it.
Plans were made and we met up close by. We were unsure which way was the best approach so tried our 1st plan and ended up on a rather narrow track not in great shape and eventually arrived at a rather nice lady's home. Ahhh OK so we turned around, came back the way we came and parked up. We thought we now knew which way to go so headed off for pan B. Surely enough the building came into sight and we were both happy little fellows. We had a quick wander before breaking out the camera gear.
My companion then needed an Urbex wee and off he went while I started taking a few pics. A few minutes later I could hear him returning and talking ?? Had he lost his mind ? was he on the phone ? No he returned with a "get orft this land" type lady - clearly a neighbour who was none too happy at our being there and advising us that they had been specifically asked to call the police if anyone was on site.
Oh nooooo thought I - not all this way for somewhere I been wanting to see for some time to be thwarted from the off. We plead our case that we just wanted to take photos and would not damage anything etc. Eventually she, clearly reluctantly, capitulated and said as long as we didn't cause any damage and stayed "over that side" (away from her and other neighbours properties)
Phew thank goodness for that.
So we did our thang and once we had done pretty much most/all we wanted decided to circumnavigate the whole place again in case we missed anything ...cue "orft this land" lady again - this time no talking her round. She was annoyed that we were upsetting the dogs - in fairness they'd been barking the whole time, and probably still are now - they'd have barked if no one was there. There was no calming her down and she was very peed off - couldn't understand this as earlier she seemed to be, albeit reluctantly, OK with us being there.
Ah well time to leave taking externals as we left.

My Brother used to own one of these and this is the only other time I've seen one. It was a hifi system that was made
like an attache case. You opened it up and one side had the turntable, radio and tapedeck and the other side
split into two and was the stereo speakers. You can just see part of one - it's a turquoise colour
