Mid Wales Hospital, Talgarth - June 2016

After finally getting a weekend off work me and @Hydro decided a trip to South Wales was long overdue. At stupid O'clock we fired up the tourbus and made the 4 hour trip to Cardiff.  ​

 ​

Sadly the first 2 Locations were scuppered by locked doors, rattlesnakes and sheep but thankfully the 3rd was wide open ​

 ​

Here's a very brief history; ​

 ​

The asylum was opened in 1904 under the name Brecon and Radnor Joint Counties Lunatic Asylum. It served the local counties initially and then widened its admittance area to accommodate other counties. It also later admitted patients from Cardiff as a hospital there was used to house soldiers during WW2. It closed in 1999, and the Chief Medical Officer picked it up for not much over £200k. Local businesses operated from there till 2009.​

Yeah some nice bits still there! Didn't come across anyone but we parked 5 mins up the road and headed over the fields

Spent the night in here a while back and realised when the sun came up what a deathtrap some of the areas we had walked through in the dark were  :shock:

Still looking like a lovely looking building in that last shot and some quality decay in there

Being scuppered by a rattlesnake sounds most uncomfortable... 

I visited the the outside of this place a couple of years ago, surprisingly difficult to find, and quite easy to miss.
