The Rijeka oil refinery was founded in 1883 in the Mlaka district. It started production with 300 employees and, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, was the largest refinery on the European continent. After the First World War, Rijeka became part of Italy and the refinery became an important part of the Italian oil program. It was founded in 1922 in Raffineria di Olli Minerali S.A. renamed. From 1926 the refinery was the first industrial company of the Italian Agip. At the beginning of World War II, the refinery had a capacity of 120,000 tons. After the end of the war, Rijeka belonged to Yugoslavia.
The destroyed refinery was rebuilt and later expanded to include a new plant in Urinj.
Lubricants were produced there and fuels in Mlaka.
The refinery had an annual capacity of eight million tons in 1965.
In 1964, through the merger of various corporations, you became part of the state-owned INA group.
As part of the port expansion of Rijeka, the oil port was relocated to the Bay of Omisali on the island of KrK (JANAF) from the 1960s, from where a 7.2 km long and 20 inch thick pipeline leads to the Rijeka oil refinery.
The refinery in Mlaka was abandoned and has been empty since then.
There are various systems on both sides of the street.
Due to the limited time, I unfortunately only had the opportunity to look at the loading area (road, rail, ship).
The pipelines that once connected the two parts of the plant were cut a long time ago.
