This was a nice explore from my summer trip to Italy with @Andy. We originally set out just to see the chapel as we hadn't realised there was an abandoned hospital behind it as well (bonus!). I managed to find a little bit of history on the place. The chapel and surrounding buildings were built in the 17th century (1661-1670) and restored in the 19th century. For much of its life span it belonged to the Camaldolese order of monks who lived as hermits in solitude and prayer. In 1918 it was converted by the Italian Red Cross into a sanatorium for war veterans and then for the treatment of female tuberculosis. Many of the buildings where the monks lived have since been demolished and others were sealed. The chapel retains some impressive stuccos but has fallen into disrepair. The hospital behind it was a much later addition built in the 1960s and subsequently closed its doors in 2013.
