The mansion was built in about 1876 for £70,000 - the equivalent of around £3million today - for Sir Hugh Ellis-Nanney, landowner, magistrate and politician. Plas Gwynfryn was a family home for about 50 years then became a retirement home for clergy and was used as a hospital during the war. In 1982 a catastrophic fire devastated the building and left it with no roof, floor or windows. It is a beautiful building and would be lovely to see it restored.
