I guess it's thirsty work, labouring away all day

Then suitably refreshed you fuck off home forgetting to put ya boots back on!

I kept mine on and exited the building, then saw the sign

I guess its Estonian for;

"Welcome Mr Grindle, get your camera out"

How wrong was I, anyways here goes the most surreal experience I have ever encountered doing this urbex stuff

Walking nonchalantly, down the dusty over grown road, bushes to my left , bushes to my right, not a care in the world, when out of nowhere stepped this man, head to foot in camouflage gear, helmet and pretty impressive face paint, carrying a rifle type weapon.

The conversation went something like this.

Me " Fuck me, you take paint balling seriously'
Him, (accented east european) " This is not paint ball, what are you doing here?
Me, " Yeah, right, Im here just taking photographs"
Him " You must not be here, you must leave, you have entered a military exercise zone, leave now"

I then paid more than a cursory glance at his weapon ( ooer matron), FUCK ME, it was not a paintball air gun, it was a semi automatic rifle, wow, I think this is for real.

Me " have you got real bullets in that thing",

I'm sorry I have got to my advanced years not taking things too seriously and following the mantra accept nothing, question everything

Him "leave now, quickly, LEAVE"

Me "When can I come back and take some photos"?
Him " Not today, you leave, maybe this evening"
Me "Nah, I will be having me tea then, I'll come back next week, look, no one is going to believe this, any chance I can get a selfie with you"?
Him " No, no photos, Leave now," As he started speaking into a mouth mic, must be calling his mates for help!
Me " Ah ok no problems, I'm on my way"

Making my way dejectedly back to my car, what did i see there?

Not only a fucking group of military personnel giving it the once over.

FFs, here we go again

Bossman " What reason are you here"?
Me " I have just explained all this to your mate down the road, i'm going, Ok"
Bossman " You are the one with the camera, I see your passport or ID"
Me "Yes, No, I don't carry any with me"
Bossman " Leave now"
Me "I'm going" extending my hand of friendship, which he didn't reciprocate: Miserable fucker.

Yeah mate, if I was in the Spetsnaz, you would now be lying in a pool of your own blood, thought I as I started up the car.

Off I drove
I returned Tuesday morning
The sign was still there
I was alone……….

So Tuesday morning up with the lark, it is time to revisit Rabasare, wondering if I will get further today.

Fucking toy soldiers.

i shall retract that last statement, a little use of google

It seems military exercises have been going on here since at least 2015.

Well Fuck Me!

So a few snaps taken from the village, Over the course of 5 hours, I took over 200 snaps, I am breaking this village down into manageable chunks.

Historical stuff

As early as 1909, a peat industry had been operational in the locality, in 1936 The Communist regime, formed, under the name of The National Peat Industry and the industry grew and became mechanised.

As a result an industrial village was born: Rabasaare.

By the summer of 1937, 10 dormitories, and one dwelling for workers with 12 apartments had been built.

65 of these workers were permanently resident here, whilst circa 600 were transient seasonal workers.

This was communist Russia, you are here to work, don’t expect this to be a fairytale living off the land existence.
