RAF Upwood,Cambridgshire (visited 2009) 2013

Took the long suffering for a stroll round this sheep ridden base,but she got bored fairly quickly!!

.As of early 2010, much of RAF Upwood is unused, closed by the Ministry of Defence in 1994. Most of the base was vacated and the land and buildings sold off to civil ownership. In 2004 Turbine Motor Works purchased a large amount of property on the former base including the four C-type hangars. Their plan is to convert the property into a state-of-the-art jet engine overhaul facility. Together with the Nene Valley Gliding Club and the Air Cadet Squadron, this facility will ensure that the former RAF base will continue its aviation legacy well into the 21st century. Part of the facility is now used by Urban Assault to play Airsoft every other Saturday.When we visited in 2010,there was plans for housing being bandied about,but whether this happened,I have no idea,

Looking at these pics Klemps reminds me of two thing

Firstly what a nice peaceful summer sheep bleating splore a few years back

Then in contrast when hoped the fence into the mothballed US Military hospital and the world going mad :lol:

Nice shots here. Been very recently and enjoyed the sunset from one of the towers. Doesn't seem like much has changed to be honest. There are two tanks and you can get in one of them

Just a shame that no one has been in the 5 floor deep underground hospital at upwood. Located under the school. Probably why the site has remained un built on all these years.

Really? 5 floors...sounds intriguing..where do you think the entrance is?
