RAF Upwood has gone through several stages of use, disuse, use, not being used. It was used by The Royal Flying Corp between 1917 and 1919, the RAF 1936-1981 and The USAF 1981-2012.
The site is huge and most of it has been derelict for many years, with some only being derelict since 2012. After World War One, the site was cleared and handed back to the local community. Since then, it was put back into service on and off until the USAF took over in 1981. A Multi Million Pound hospital was built here in 1986, and this lies destroyed on site since its 2012 closure.
The site is ultimately totally ruined inside out, but has some nice things to photograph. The local kids roam around the place too so its pretty open to the elements.
