The hospital was built between 1746 and 1761 by Theodore Jacobson. When the hospital was constructed it was the largest brick building and largest hospital in England. Not was Haslar only a hospital it had an asylum to for sailors with psychiatric disorders. In 1902 the hospital got its name changed to Royal Naval Hospital Haslar. In 1966 the hospital became Royal Hospital Haslar again. Also in 2001 the hospital was listed as a grade II listed park. The hospital formally closed in 2009
