Imereti Sanatorium was built in Tskaltubo in 1961 by architects Vladimir Alexi-Meskhishvili and L. Janelidze. In this former health resort, which became known for its healing mineral waters, a total of 23 large holiday hotels, sanatoriums and bathhouses were built.
It took 11 years to complete the construction of this sanatorium.
The Imereti sanatorium had a capacity of 305 beds and was built in Stalinist architectural style. This one was very impressive. Worth seeing were among other things the large round room with its vaulted ceiling and the high columns and the staircase.
The sanatorium has a great courtyard planted with pine trees, palm trees and many shrubs.
In the 1990s, families from Abkhazia who were driven out of their homes in Abkhazia were housed here.
Unfortunately, the sanatorium Imereti is now in a very bad condition and the decay is clearly visible.
