I'm not entirely sure why this place has been dubbed "sick hospital" but that's what people seem to be calling it so we'll stick with that. I struggled to find much in the way of history of this place, but from what I can gather thanks to google translate, it appears to have been closed down to downsize the hospitals in the area from three sites to two back in 2014 (correct me if anyone happens to know any different) The demolition of the site was planned for 2015, however, come 2016 and it's still there, with even half the power still on! A new, smaller medical centre has been built on the site.
This was the first explore of the weekend, and we arrived just as the light was creeping in, and pretty much fell out of the car, into the freezing cold.
Pretty much as soon as we got in, we heard footsteps on the ceiling and launched ourselves out of various windows before waiting it out for a few seconds and trying again. This time the footsteps came downstairs, and they were definitely people, so once again we all legged it and hid, only to find that there were just already other explorers in there
Pretty nice hospital, though a few floors were pretty gutted, there was lots to see in here, and we spent a good three hours wandering around, but it seemed we had stumbled upon the current urbex tourist attraction of belgium, and I completely lost track of how many other groups continuously turned up throughout the morning! (Making it a little difficult to find the right group again when I got left behind on some floor or other, when it became a game of "listen out for the english people" :L)
Sadly, although we did try the lifts (deciding that if we were going to get stuck, we were all in it together!) they didn't work, and just came up with a message saying out of service, so stairs it was up to the roof to start out (where we spotted yet more explorers heading inside!!)
This Chair ended up doing a tour of the rest of the hospital with us, and on seeing other pictures of the hospital on Facebook, it's certainly not the first time it's been whizzed about on :L
Thanks for looking
