First explore of the new year
A little history on the place first that I'm sure you've all heard before -
St. Peter’s Hospital was initially built to house the casualties of the Second World War. The mortuary was built in the 1940s, but after much redevelopment it was decided that the site was too small to cope with the increase of bodies. So, in April 2009 the mortuary closed and moved to the new building which is now central to the main hospital.
And the explore -
So, this was a very late notice explore, with two non-members, literally organised the night before, at which point I hastily put my new camera on charge (I'd been borrowing my Dad's D300 up 'til now, but Santa brought me a shiny new D5300 which I was itching to try out :3 ) and set an alarm for early the next morning.
This place was actually my first ever explore back in the summer. I was dragged along with two of my mates to "some abandoned mortuary up north". I had no camera but my awful phone, which I didn't even use, and absolutely no clue what I was in for. (We also had a glance at Silverlands, but got spooked by the cctv and the fact people were shouting at us that they were going to call the police..) But from that day on, I was hooked, so I was so glad to finally get some shots of the place having acquired an SLR and a (still admittedly basic) knowledge of how to use it! It was also good to actually see the chapel area too, as on my previous visit, there was somebody sleeping in there! Which we decided was our cue to leave...
This place is really looking very sorry for itself now... it was pretty bad when I last visited, but it has got worse still One of the tables is missing, and is flooding the place out, along with all of the doors from one of the fridges, and all of the racks from one of the other fridges, but it was still a morning well spent
Sorry for the rambling, on with some photos!
Thanks for looking
