Black Widow was built at Sudomekh shipyard in Leningrad and commissioned in 1967. It was based at Riga and served with the Soviet Baltic Fleet before being used as a training vessel for crews from overseas who would be operating Foxtrot-class subs in their own navies. It was decommissioned in 1994 and sold.

The Explore

I set off around 11pm hit the usual road works and diversions and was starting to worry I wasnt gonna get there for the agreed time as I was meeting a fellow explorer Kevin Williams and we needed to get here under darkness and the tide in. 10 mins from meet up point and I had a tyre blow out and my spare was flat too haha, rang Kev he met me on motoway fixed tyre and off we raced.

blowing up a small rubber dingy at 4am is louder then you think anyhow we enter the water in total darkness with the sub outline just visible and start paddling when I hear a hissing noise yep you guessed it its got a leak so we paddle faster eventually making our target get onto and make way for the very difficult entry.

The struggle to get there seemed worth it looking at the photos! It’s a unique place. Great report
