The city bath opened in 1890 cost almost 1 million Reichsmark and was quite well equipped.
Separate swimming pools for ladies and gentlemen, shower and tub baths in 3 classes as well as the luxurious "Kaiserbad".
At its opening, it was considered the most beautiful, magnificent and luxurious bathhouse in the German Reich.
In 1925 the outdoor swimming pool was added which destroyed in the war.
In 1946 it was rebuilt expediently and without luxury.
Since the bathing departments, due to increasingly better equipped apartments, less and less were used, the closure took place in the 1990 years.
On April 13, 1992, the pool of the ladies' bath, was severely damaged by an earthquake and has since been also out of service.
Also the gentlemen bath was always closed because of technical problems with the outdated system.
In 2000, the whole bathroom was shut down after more than 110 years.
Today, the entire bath is a listed building and is still largely in the original state of construction.
Today, the association Freischwimmer (www.freischwimmer- krefeld.de) takes care of the bathroom.
You can also visit it legally through the association freischwimmer e.V.
