The "Reserve Ammunition Storage Point (RASP) 591" consists of four identical buildings standing next to each other.
After their victory over Germany on May 8, 1945, the American armed forces requisitioned several large areas for the construction of barracks, military camps and training areas. For safety reasons, hazardous substances and ammunition were stored at greater distances from these facilities. The forest area was previously already used by the German Wehrmacht for military purposes.
After German reunification, the area was abandoned in 1990 and returned to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1992, but it has not been used anymore.
