I visited Belgium for the first time recently and absolutely loved it over there, despite the Belgian police groping my butt within an hour of us crossing the border that is. Much absinth was consumed (whose idea was that again??) and we all had a laugh throughout, I cannot wait to get back over there for more shits and giggles. This large house was one of our first locations, not much is known about the history apart from it appears to have been lived in by a lawyer judging from the hundreds of legal papers in the basement dating back to the 1920s. It had a bit of everything, grandeur, decay, belongings, stuffed birds, a basement full of legal documents and a cellar full of unopened bottles of wine and champagne. Sentimental belongings everywhere and a kitchen full of cooking ingredients made it seem like people were living there yesterday but the level of decay in some rooms told a different story. Every room offered something different so it made for a really fascinating explore with lots to photograph, and on that note here's my pics.....
1. The exterior
2. A suitcase sits next to a chair in the hallway, set up much?
3. The living room
4. Loved this fireplace
5.
6. These stained glass windows were one of the nicest features
7. Not sure why anyone would want these dead birds staring at them but each to their own!
8. Antique trouser press
9.
10.
11.
12. Some of the pictures around the house seemed to watch you wherever you went.....
13.
14. This room was full of possessions including this record player, scalextric, old computers, spectacles, and cool posters all over the walls....
15.
16. In the attic, a poster of Jesus sits on the table, one of many religious relics to be found around the house
17. These shotgun cartridges were a strange find, and the other bullets looked like wartime ammunition
18. The trophies were from skiing competitions if my memory serves me right, there was also an old set of skis lying around elsewhere so it would seem there was a successful skier in the house at one time
19.
20. This bird seems to have moved around quite a bit
21.
22. This room had suffered the worst from decay, I quite liked it that way though
23.
24. Mouldy legal files and documents
25. A fully stocked cellar, the mould all over the corks was just offputting enough however.....just.
Cheers for having a mooch
