The cages were used by workers to hold their belongings whilst at work. They are operated by chains, a chain is pulled to send the basket to the ceiling and then can be locked at the bottom, this way no one can steal your stuff

The security is pretty mad! When we turned up we saw at least three patrolling the fence with their torches
