I know the Ruhr region being active from many trips to visit my grandparents in my childhood. Chimneys were smoking all over the way on the left or right of the highway. Last year the last active coal mine was closed. So I definately had to explore an old mine. Unfortunately I decided for the wrong one - it already has been demolished. Being disappointed from the first stop I decided to visit a not that spectacular mine that was around and surely open. Sadly this one was destroyed by vandalism but still representative.

Liking the look of this place, perhaps your photos have made it look nicer than it is :) When you say another mine nearby, do you mean Zeche Hugo? I was there last year.

No, it's Zeche Friedrich Heinrich that has been demolished. There will be a gardening show in 2020. There are only a few adminstrative buildings left.

Another interesting colliery, I also visited these a few years ago. I really like the locker rooms with the metal baskets there.

That's the reason I was desperately waiting for the chance to visit a Zeche. Love those "Waschkauen" (locker rooms) too! I'm not that much into industrial locations. But I'm absolutely fascinated remembering photos in newspapers like this one:
