The history of this castle, most of which was built in neo-traditional style, goes back to the 13th century. The building, which was mainly used as a holiday residence, was owned successively by various noble families, including the de Ligne family, who owned it until the end of the 15th century.
In the mid-19th century, the Order of Saint Bernards bought the castle and converted it into a monastery and a guest house by adding side wings that served as classrooms and convent rooms.
The sisters are also responsible for the construction of the impressive neo-Gothic chapel built between 1901 and 1902.
After the withdrawal of the nuns, the complex was sold in the 1960s to a trading company that still owns it today.
Due to the numerous renovations over time, the whole has become a gigantic complex.
There are only a few attractive rooms, such as the famous ballroom with chandelier and the small chapel.
Many rooms have lost their original shape due to the renovation.
