Pavilhão Cirúrgico, Portugal - January 2025

This was once the surgical wing of a tuberculosis sanatorium in Portugal. It was built in 1902 and closed down around 25 years ago. Several of the floors have collapsed so you have to watch where you're going, and there's a lot of green mould on the walls. Not something you want to be breathing in for long but it makes for some nice pictures. This has been doing the rounds for a few years now so you may have seen pictures of the metal operating chair before. I wasn't that excited about going there to be honest, but it was nearby so we thought we'd give it a look. In the end it massively surpassed our expectations. The level of natural decay and lack of vandalism makes it really photogenic. The rest of the buildings across town haven't fared quite so well. Visited with @jones-y-gog & Sids on a very rainy day.

A little bit further down the road is the main sanatorium building. Most of the site has been demolished but there is one building remaining with some nice art deco features inside. The other buildings we looked at elsewhere across town were completely trashed and graffed up unfortunately.
