Opened in 1867 as Moulsford Asylum, also known as Berkshire Lunatic Asylum, Berkshire Mental Hospital and then Fairmile Hospital until closure in 2003.
I visited solo on a rainy Sunday morning back in September 2010, it was a real tricky place to get around, well guarded with active cctv dotted around the place. The tight security meant that it was in great condition inside with hardly any vandalism, although it was pretty much empty. Access involved getting real close to the security hut but wasn't too bad if you were quiet.
I came pretty close to getting caught inside, at one point the guard was only about 6 feet away from me but somehow he didn't spot me and I managed to get out undetected!
The conversion was well under way last year, I wouldn't be surprised if there are people living in there by now.
I in no way got to see all of it, there was plenty that I missed and unfortunately never made it back to see the rest.
Here are some picture of what I did see.
