The hospital is known for operating from 1941 to 1945 without being discovered, despite the continued efforts of the Nazis and their Ustasha allies.
At the end of the war, the hospital grew to up to 30 buildings. About 5000 patients were treated there. Both guerrilla fighters and villagers from the XXXXXX area.
The hospital was abandoned in May 1945 when everything moved to liberated Karlovac. In addition to the buildings, there were numerous underground constructions/bunkers for hiding the sick.
The hospital was in bad shape when someone decided to build a museum to commemorate the heroic struggle and hardship.
The huts were restored in the 1960s and quickly became a popular destination for schoolchildren and nature lovers.
Unfortunately it didn't work. After the War of Independence in the 1990s, the hospital was abandoned again.
Almost all buildings are empty. Only the operating room is still reasonably well furnished.
Medical artifacts are still there!
Around 1,000 people died there from their injuries.
They are buried there, in a small hospital cemetery.
